I would like to begin by saying a huge thank you to the parents and carers of Sancho students for their support over the past week. Currently, we have 85% of our college regularly engaging in their lessons and this number will increase going forward, as we provide further bespoke support to those who have experienced hardware issues thus far.
Special mention in this regard should go to 7B, who despite only receiving their chromebooks in the fortnight prior to Christmas, have displayed scholarship, ambition and resilience in being the highest group so far in terms of engagement, with over 90% of students attending every lesson and working really hard!
It may be pertinent at this point to remind parents and carers of the process we’re currently following to ensure no learning is lost during this period of lockdown.
Students across the academy are expected to continue to follow their timetable, as they would were they in school.
Period 1 teachers will take a register, and subject teachers throughout the day are available at the times they would normally be teaching - via Google classroom - to respond to any questions students may have. If Sancho students are unsure about anything not related to a particular subject, thy can also ask questions in their virtual tutor classroom as well as the Sancho college classroom (google code: n7k3msz).
Teachers across the academy are working exceptionally hard to deliver quality lessons remotely, so that students continue to make excellent progress, and we are very proud as a college team of Sancho’s efforts thus far! Since the start of term alone, 474 merits have been awarded across the college!
All those who are engaging consistently with their studies have received merits, and we will continue to escalate rewards as the module progresses. Particular mention should go to the students opposite (our ‘Sancho stars’), who have especially impressed the college team over the past fortnight.
Pratiks (7E) - For scholarship and Integrity - a joy to teach because he always works hard, completes all tasks and answers all questions verbally, even when being cold-called during remote lessons!
Charlie (7B) For resilience - Engaging really well with all aspects of remote learning and developing self-management and independent skills to be on top of his work. He is doing brilliantly!
Ti C (8B) - For Integrity, Scholarship, Resilience and Ambition. For being engaged, disciplined, hard working and always making the effort to complete the Weekly Challenge on the Maths Club - always achieving perfection! For providing beautiful solutions to problems that puzzle hundreds of students (and teachers!) across the UK through the Daily Maths challenge.
Harry (9B) - For scholarship - For detailed work, particularly in History lessons. Harry is writing at length in the style required by the extended questions, referencing prior learning and supporting his assertions with precise details. Well done Harry!
Lacie (9B) - For scholarship - For sharing some of the beautiful artwork (seen below) she has produced recently on her tutor classroom. It’s stunning!
Serra (9E) - For Ambition, Resilience and Scholarship by engaging in the UK poster competition. For creating an original poster on the life and works of Sir Isaac Newton, and for being stubborn and never giving up until she gets the correct answer!
Thank you, again, for all that you’re doing to support your child’s learning during this difficult time. Please do continue to liaise with your child’s tutor and the wider college team regarding your child’s experience of remote learning, and any further pastoral support that we can provide.
Best wishes,
