Teachers have been tracking student engagement over the past two weeks and making note of which students are fully engaging in their lessons, those who are partially engaged and those who have not engaged. I am so proud to share with you that of the 180 students in Fawcett College we have a 98.8% engagement rate. This means that 98.8% of students have logged onto their classroom and submitted work for their subjects. This is nothing short of a phenomenal achievement. I would like to send out a big WELL DONE to students for this amazing display of scholarship and resilience. Getting used to learning at home is not an easy task and Fawcett students have shown that they are committed to their learning and that they are ambitious in their expectations of themselves
I would also like to thank parents and carers too. The challenge you are facing at the moment cannot be ignored and should not be downplayed. Juggling childcare, home-schooling and your own work, whether that be at home or not, is an extraordinary ask. Thank you for the work you are doing, day in and day out, to get your children up and ready to learn for their 8.40-8.50am registration and to keep them on track throughout the day with their learning, as well as everything else you are juggling.
The Fawcett team are working incredibly hard to capitalise on this huge success. We do not want engagement levels to fall and we want to support parents and carers as much as we can to make remote learning sustainable. Form Tutors will be in touch with the parents of students who have not completed enough remote learning on a Monday. They will reach out to offer support and solutions to any problems you or your child(ren) may be facing with their home learning. Our College team will also be involved in this effort. Ms Takusewanya, our Student Services Manager, is tasked with getting in touch with the parents of those whose engagement falls below expectations. She will reach out to offer support and strategies to catch up, suggest wellbeing ideas and will be telephoning to check in with students and discuss with parents how to get students caught up with work.
We will continue to celebrate the successes of students throughout this lockdown period through giving out merits, certificates of commendation and later in the module we will award students who have consistently exceptional engagement with a book reward. There will of course be a Student of the Week celebration breakfast for all winners when it is safe for us all to come together and celebrate properly!
