Students and staff at LAB marked National Anti Bullying week this year by taking part in a range of activities and events that looked at identifying the different forms that bullying can take in the modern world, the impact of bullying and the ways that we can work together to stamp it out.
Throughout the week in tutor time, students took part in workshops and activities as well as taking part in a virtual interactive assembly.
The week ended with the celebration of ‘Odd Sock Day’ - Students and staff were invited to wear odd socks as part of the ‘dare to be different’ challenge to highlight the fact that we are all unique, and that this should warrant not merely tolerance, but celebration.
One of the new initiatives we have introduced is that of 'Anti Bullying Ambassadors', one from each tutor group. Students across the Academy will work together to offer peer support and share ideas with staff regarding ways that we can ensure bullying does not happen at LAB. We are also extremely pleased to announce that LAB has signed up to the Diana Award Anti Bullying Ambassador Programme that will provide training for our students to help build confidence, skills and resources to help tackle bullying and promote an environment where bullying is less likely.
The Diana Award was set up in memory of Princess Diana and her belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better. It is committed to fostering, inspiring and developing positive change in the lives of young people through practical social action.
We look forward to sharing with you updates on what our Ambassadors are doing.
