What a great term the reception children have had to end their first year in school! To begin with we had Science and Art week. The children had a science ambassador come and do an experiment where we investigated whether circles or triangles made better supports for carrying objects. The children discovered that circle supports could carry more mass.
The children also looked at Wassily Kandisky who makes art using shapes and recreated our own.
For the rest of this term, the children have been learning about telling stories and performing rhymes. We explored space through the story ‘Whatever Next!’ by Jill Murphy. The children made their own rockets using junk modelling or shapes.
We retold the story of ‘Giraffes can’t dance’, thinking about how Gerald couldn’t dance at first but kept trying and was able to once he found his music.
We became archaeologists when learning about the ‘Harry and his bucketful of dinosaurs’ stories
Whilst learning about ‘The Gingerbread man’, the children retold the story using story maps, explored making our own dough looking at different consistencies depending on the amount of water or flour.
Throughout the term, the careers shed has supported us in acting out different stories and finding the true performers in us all!
The reception children have had such a great year with lots that they have achieved. We look forward to celebrating all of these achievements with them during our activities week based around the United Kingdom.
