The children in year 4 have had an amazing start to the term. It all started off with Science and Art week where the children enjoyed investigating sounds and researching a well-known artist- Wassily Kandinsky. We were lucky to have had a visitor, Jessica McCafferty who conducted several workshops with the children explaining how sound travels through vibrations. The children thoroughly enjoyed the sessions and the activities.
As the week progressed, the children created artwork in the style of Kandinsky, to express their thoughts and feelings which was linked to our Transdisciplinary theme of How We Express Ourselves. Additionally, the children became poets by writing incredible Cinquain poems titled: ‘The Best Part of Me.’
As part of our Design and Technology inquiry, the children used different stitches (running and back stitches) to sew Roman tunic for Mrs. Crance’s class teddy. Techniques. This was linked to our History inquiry of the Romans and our central idea that, ‘That Creativity can lead to New Discoveries.’ The children have learnt about the Roman lifestyle and their impact on western civilisation which is linked to our line of inquiry of, ‘How ideas and values influenced lifestyles.’ We have learnt about the well-known Roman story of Romulus and Remus in which the children wrote some incredible recount, using descriptive language.
For Activities Week, the children engaged in a series of activities linked to our Roman topic. They have learnt to bake ancient Roman bread, participated in a Roman script and enjoyed a taste of Roman lifestyle by eating a selection of delicatessen. Overall, the children have had an incredible term of fun packed learning. We’re very sad to see them go and wish them the very best in year 5.
