This term has gone by so quickly with year one having an incredible and exciting range of learning opportunities.
In the first week of term, year 1 were scientists, and they were able to complete a range of different experiments. We had a visit from a real-life scientist! As well as being scientists, we were also artists, linking our science and art learning. The children were able to use a variety of different paints as well as the iPads, to create a beautiful piece of seasonal artwork. Adding to all of the fun we had in our first week, we also had the amazing chance to think and discuss the best part of ourselves, and take part in a school-wide activity to create a piece of writing about the best part of ourselves, from our ‘unique soul’ to our ‘super fast legs’ and ‘beautiful eyes’.
Throughout the rest of the term, we have been on aeroplanes to explore the whole world like Amelia Earhart- who was the first woman to fly 14,000 feet! We have been authors and written letters to Greenpeace about how to look after our class animals, been scientists and artists who discovered new animals and made them out of clay!
Continuing our learning, we had an amazing visit from a musician who showed the children a range of different instruments. The children loved the performance from him, and throughout our music lessons they have enjoyed playing a variety of instruments such as xylophones, tambourines and maracas. Within our PE lessons, we have explored throwing bean bags into hoops, practised our running races and balancing balls on tennis rackets. The children also enjoyed a Football Fun Day where they were able to learn about and play football games
This term, year one has been looking at what they are nervous and excited for in preparation for year two. We have looked at change, and how it is a good thing. The children have visited their year two class and teacher and been able to spend some time learning with them and coming back from this, the children all seemed happy and excited for year two!
Year one has had such an amazing learning journey this year and should feel so proud of themselves. We have enjoyed getting to know all of the children this year and loved watching them all grow, learn and progress. We wish them every success going into year two, we know they will all continue to be super stars!
