This term has certainly been a busy one! We started Term 6 with science and Art week and the children enjoyed making pulley systems and creating clay masks for our upcoming topic, “The Ancient Kingdom of Benin”.
Week 2 we were lucky enough to take part in a national competition about climate change. The children appointed themselves the role of producer, director, cameraman and news reporter and engaged in the activity really well. The competition gave the children a really good insight into future careers in the media industry. Scan the QR code to watch one of our awesome entries.
Week 3 we finally started our inquiry topic and our theme was “How we Express Ourselves”. We introduced the children to the Ancient Kingdom of Benin through our provocation which involved the children creating a board game about the Mother of the Oba and her fight to ensure her son makes the throne!
Into the fourth week we travelled to Oxleas Woods for our field trip. The children really enjoyed the day using data loggers to record sound levels, litter picking and making sketches of the landscape. The trip showed the children the devastating effects pollution can have on the planet including air pollution, land pollution and noise pollution. When they returned to school they wrote up some outstanding reports.
