Our school is located about 5 km from Aveiro, in Cacia and this year has 710 students age 9-16 Years. We are part of cluster schools and they also integrates some kindergartens and primary schools around the main geographical area. We also have one Vocational Class, targeting students aged between 14 to 18. Our staff members are 75.
Our students are quite active and collaborative, they like new challenges and our teachers are looking forward to starting this project. Our cluster of schools has a very strong and dynamic project team (other than Erasmus team) thatin the last 3 years have been promoted several activities and projects in the environment education and sustainability, promoting the reduction of ecological footprint.
We are pedagogically organized in departments: Languages (Portuguese, English, French); Sciences (Maths, Science, Chemistry and Physics, Informatics) Social and Human Sciences (History, Geography, Religious Education); Arts, Music and Sports (Visual Education, Crafts, Physical Education, Music and Special Needs Education). Moreover, we have Primary and Kindergarten. We have integrated children with special educational needs that are supported by Special Education teachers and a School Psychologist. They go to regular classes and attend some specific adapted vocational areas / curriculum.
We have implemented several projects on a regional and national level with which we gathered amazing results. We have done a reforesting of the national reserve Dunas de São Jacinto with 1200 trees from the region (removing invaders) with the objective of converting our forest more strong and resistant to the firewood, making with this more resistant to fire and making the education on the field to the students that have now a forest reborned by their hands.
Our school is an effective participating member of Eco-School Projects . We have protocols with the national Navy and National Army so students can have outside activities related to nature, sports and long life learning skills. Having Aveiro's University nearby is also great since they are open to help improving our teaching skills through formation and
activities at school when they are asked for.
