Short term exchange of pupils
Aveiro, Portugal, from the 16th to the 20th March 2023
“Agrupamento de Escolas Novo Principe-Cacia em Aveiro” was the hosting school of the C5 mobility IV LECLIC Climate Change Conference, whose objective was to present actions to mitigate climate change. A total of 31 students (9 PT, 10 ES, 6 IT and 6 GR) and 14 teachers (8 PT, 2 ES, 2 IT and 2GR) participated in the five days of the IV LECLIC Conference plus two days of travels.
Teachers, jointly with the management team of the school, prepared the cultural, social and scientific activities for the students and teachers. Winter weather conditions were considered when planning and implementing indoor and outdoor activities to fulfill the objectives of the short-term exchange program. There were no remaining COVID19 restrictions.
The visit was integrated in the school life through the extension of the number of students from the school who participated in the meeting, sharing common school timetables and breaks, where they had the opportunity to meet new people. A common social activity was organized in which Portuguese students showed their guests traditional dances and invited them to dance all together. Finally, the closing ceremony, which consisted in the delivery of certificates of participation and of the prices of the short-film contest.
This was part of the official agenda which consists in the implementation of sociocultural activities such as:
The welcoming to the participants to the school by the vice-headmaster, who informed about the school policy, health, safety. After that took place the official photo and a walk through the school to visit the rooms, gym, gardens and orchards. Students prepared a friendship bracelet as an icebreaker activity. They enjoyed a pedi-paper visit to Aveiro city center, the visit to the Costa Nova and Barra Beach, the Moliceiro ride on the canals, the traditional dances and the farewell dinner.
Students and teachers also participated in those STEAM activities that enlarged their knowledge about climate change and actions to mitigate it:
Participation in the international phase of the short-film contest on actions to mitigate climate change. Twelve short-film videos were presented explaining the decalog of actions. Four mentions were given: a first position winner for a Portuguese video, a second position for an Italian and Spanish video and an honorific position for a Greek video.
Moreover, students participated in two kahoots, as a final evaluation of their learning due to their participation in the LECLIC project. Other STEAM activities were technical visit to RAIZ (Forest and Paper Research Institute) , reforestation of the Natural Reserve of the “Dunas de São Jacinto” organized jointly with the Aveiro city council, a technical visit to the Ilvaho Maritim Museum and the cod aquarium, a soap making workshop organized by the students of the Portuguese school, climate change board games to use their learning in a joyful manner and final conclusion of the work done during the week.
