Section 4: Conclusions
You can conclude with us:
The results of the final survey were obtained after ending the Guide of climate change.
A total of 109 students participated in the final survey with ages ranging from 12 to 16 years old, a 52,3% were females, 45% were males and a 2,8% did not want to say their gender. The survey was answered in June 2023 using google forms.
The guide helped us to acknowledge all what we have learned with this project. Those were the same questions than the ones of the pre-survey, and are classified in:
questions about climate change
Actions to mitigate climate change
Lifestyle
The answers can be read in the next sections
A 85,3% of the students who participated in the final assessment recognize the greenhouse effect as a natural phenomena caused by the concentration of gases in the atmosphere that warms the Earth surface
A 86,2% percent of the students agree that the pollution is the main factor that increase the greenhouse effect
A 39,4% of the students usually go to school on foot and the 2% by bike. But, still a 58,7% of them use a car.
The percentage on the use of the car increases when the family joins to go shopping with a 79,8%. There is a 14,7% of the families who goes on foot and a 5% go uses the train.
The 69,4% of the students affirm that they always reduce at home and a 32,4& informs that it depends on the item. Only a 2,8% affirm that they do not reduce or reuse at home
The distribution of the items for the 97,2% students who affirm that they recicle can be analyzed in the next graph.
We can conclude that a 69,7% affirm to select and separate all kind of items. And a 9,2% of the families affirm to recicle just paper and glass, just paper (5,5%) and organic (8,3%)
The 67% of the students agree that the use of renewable energy will be the main factor to help to mitigate climate change. In second place they suggest the decrease of CO2 emissions (14,7%). And, with a 8,3% and 7,3% respectively they answer unplug gadgets when are not used and dry clothes in the open air.
In relation with the question about climate change and carbon footprint that was the thematic of the Virtual Climate Change conference, students with a 54,1% agree that the use of public transport will reduce it. They also suggest to change our home appliances for more efficient ones (28,4%).
The final survey also had an open question to summarize our learning. Some excerpts that we have selected are:
Gil
The most important thing that I learnt is that you don't need to be an activist to help the environment, most of activits were normal persons, so think about it and start doing things about the world that you love.
Rodrigo
With the participation in the project I learned that it's not hard to take actions and do something to help out planet, we can do thing on our days that are funny and helps the environment.
Matilde
I learned as a project that if we want to have a better future than the present, it is now that we must act because later it may be too late.
Floriana
I learned that we should all make our world a better place and to do that we should pollute less and exploit the resources the earth gives us.
Noemi
With this project I learned to respect the environment and to live a right lifestyle
Eirina
Personally, from the participation in the project I learned how to protect the environment, other ways to use the technology like how to make a VR game and I learned some interesting information about Spain. I am very happy that I was given the opportunity to take part in this project. Thank you for all.
Georgio
I have learned that the planet Earth is our home and we need to protect it by every man.
Mateo
I have learned that the climate change has been caused by many reasons - for ex.: By cutting down forests, by using transpiration, by producing food, by consuming too much, by manufacturing goods and more. I also learned how to mitigate the climate change so that we can have a better, healthy lifestyle. Lastly, I would like to mention that by learning more and more about the climate change, I'm now responsible of myself and I would like to do more to mitigate it!
Rodrigo
I have learned to become aware of climate change and to see that it is an issue that really affects everyone, regardless of their social or economic status.
Hugo
Thanks to this project we have learnt a lot of things that not only have to do with the subjects but also with our well-being, working cooperatively, climate change...
It has certainly been an activity that has helped us to open our minds.
Pilar
As a final conclusion, what I have learned by participating in this project is the importance of our daily actions and their influence on the planet. Furthermore, I would like to highlight the learning about all the methods and activities that everyone as a person should do in order to mitigate or reduce climate change and its derivatives. On the other hand, it has also been satisfying to know that among all the aspects mentioned there was a certain connection with the STEAM subjects, as well as their study and subsequent analysis.
