Winter Sports off to a good start

Post date: Dec 12, 2020 8:14:21 PM

Hello All,

We are grateful to have started our winter sports season here at LVHS and are in the middle of hosting our second basketball game of the season under our new health orders which mandates masks while in the building and limits capacity to 100 spectators.  We have worked hard to provide the best environment we can under those conditions and are so appreciative to our students, staff, and families for their patience, understanding, and willingness to do what is needed to ensure our students get their winter season and hopefully all of their culminating events in like fall was able to.  The basketball teams are off to a great start winning 5 of 6 games against Jackson on Thursday, including both varsity contests.  They are hosting Buffalo today and we look forward to those results.  Swimming was also off to a fast start as they began their quest for 25 straight state championships with many boys already qualifying for state and Jonny Kulow setting  new pool records in the 100 free, back and breaststroke and the 50 freestyle at the Rawlins Pentathlon.   Wrestling began in Powell and after Friday night they were 1-2 on duals with both losses coming to 4A schools.  We will host our first wrestling match on Thursday with a dual against Cody, Swimming will also be home this week on Friday, while the basketball team will be on the road to Jackson on Saturday.

In COVID news we had another calm week in COVID activity with just two positive cases amongst our students and no cases reported amongst staff.  We also had just 10 students that were quarantined as a result of close contacts outside of school.  We continue to stress the importance of our procedures and protocols and believe that your help in implementing those is the reason that we have been able to stay in school safely.

This week brings to a close the 2020 year at LVHS and I can't thank you all enough for your efforts to make these past few months possible.  We continue to remain vigilant in our efforts to ensure the safety of our students and staff while we provide the best education and experience possible to our students.  Remember that when we return from Christmas Break on January 4th that we will have two weeks until the end of the semester.  At that time I will provide details about how that will look for students as we work to guarantee high levels of learning for every student, every day. Please remember that this is a normal week and Friday is a full day for all students.  On behalf of LVHS and it's incredible staff I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Safe New Year!
