Masks Optional, AP Tests Start this week, LVHS students released at 1:20 on Wednesday, Drug and Alcohol Awareness Presentation for Parents

Post date: May 01, 2021 8:56:12 PM

Most of you are probably aware but I just wanted to be sure to communicate that effective Monday, May 3rd masks will no longer be required in any FCSD #1 schools after the board approved the mask variance that was granted by Dr. Harrist, State Public Heath Officer on April 27th.  Masks are now optional in all buildings, however due to federal regulations on public transportation students and staff are still required to wear masks while riding in district-owned vehicles, including busses.  I know for some this will cause concern as directed in the communication sent out by the district on Friday, please do not hesitate to give me a call so we can talk through how to best handle your concerns.

This week marks Teacher Appreciation Week and I hope that as parents and students you will take a minute to reflect on a teacher who has made a difference for you and reach out to them and tell them thank you.  LVHS is so fortunate to have an incredible staff who cares immensely about the many needs of each of our students and I cannot thank them enough for the time, effort, and dedication that they put into ensuring we are meeting the needs of Every Student, Every Day!  This marks my 19th year in education, and without a doubt this has been the most difficult one of my career and I am sure that many teachers feel the same way.  A simple extension of gratitude can go a long ways and I encourage you to reach out and say thank you!

College Signing Day is Monday (5/3) at LVHS where we will honor all of our seniors post-secondary plans beginning at 1:30 in the LVHS Fieldhouse.  We welcome parents and community members who would like to share in the celebration!

The National Honor Society Induction will happen Monday, May 3rd at 6pm in the LVHS Auditorium.  We are so excited to welcome these amazing students to this very distinct honor and we hope that you are able to join us to celebrate their accomplishments.

Please remember that on Wednesday LVHS will dismiss early as a result of our staff being trained by one of the best Drug and Alcohol Awareness experts in the country, Jermaine "Tall Cop" Galloway.  All students will be release at 1:20, however buses will run on their normal schedule.  We will have a designated place for students to be until 2:30 if they are unable to leave or need to wait for the bus.  Parents I promise you will not be disappointed if you attend the 6pm presentation that Officer Galloway will put on for the community.  Officer Galloway has been working against drug and alcohol abuse, especially underage use of drugs and alcohol, for the past two decades. Officer Galloway is a highly sought after presenter due to his extensive understanding of the substance abuse problem and pragmatic strategies to address this issue at the community level. More information about Officer Galloway can be found here

Both our boys and girls soccer teams had dominating victories this week against Pinedale.  They will both host a tough and important contest this Friday when Worland comes to town.  The track team is currently competing in the Roy Peck Invitational in Riverton and next Saturday will host the Shane Brock Invitational.  Both state soccer (Cheyenne) and state track (Casper) are the weekend of graduation, May 20-22 and we are excited to see how well they each finish their seasons.

This week we will host our last PIE meeting, however I will be out on Tuesday, so we will be hosting that meeting at 12pm on Thursday, May 6th. Here is the link to that information or you can join us in-person at LVHS.

Brad Neuendorf is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Just a reminder that graduation is on May 23rd at 10am in Bill Bush Stadium with no limitations on attendance but seating is first come, first serve.  In case of inclement weather we will move the ceremony in to the Bob Carey Memorial Fieldhouse where we will also push back the start time to 1pm.  If moved indoors, currently we would be limited to 1,000 guests and that would mean that each graduate would only be allowed six guests each.  We are hoping for good weather and to use the lovely backdrop of the Wind River Mountains to help send of our fabulous class of 2021.  Senior parents if you did not receive the senior letter and bulletin with all the important dates and times please contact the LVHS office and we will make sure you get one.

This week our Advanced Placement students will begin taking their AP tests through The College Board.  All of these will happen onsite as we will just pull students in the morning or afternoon as needed to complete the tests.  Please remember that all students who are enrolled in AP classes are required to take the AP test for each course they are enrolled in. Successful completion of test can result in college credit being granted depending on individual institutional requirements. When AP students have completed their test and have completed all the coursework in their classes, they are no longer required to attend that period for the rest of the year.  Parents please contact the school if you wish for your student to remain on campus during that period, otherwise they will be allowed to leave. We are so proud of our students and their willingness to take these difficult and rigorous courses.  Five years ago we gave 21 AP exams, this year we are giving 229 AP exams, ensuring that our students are receiving the most rigorous standards to best prepare them for college!  Please help us by making sure your student is here and ready to take the test according to the following schedule:
