Week 2 of Revised Distance Learning Plan begins Monday

Post date: Apr 12, 2020 7:47:19 PM

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having a great weekend with your families and that you are all doing well physically and emotionally.  I can't thank you all enough for your efforts since this all began a month ago and I look forward to continue to work with you all to finish out our interesting school year in a very positive fashion.

Hopefully everyone was able to make it out to the #BeTheLightWy event that occurred across Wyoming and in in particular at Bill Bush Stadium on Friday night. It appeared to be a great turnout in support of our medical workers, extracurricular activity participants, and of course our Class of 2020.  This past week I surveyed our senior class to gather some input to help guide our decisions in regards to their upcoming graduation ceremony.  I will be meeting with students, teachers, administration, and the FCSD#1 Board in the next week or so to finalize our plans to ensure a positive celebration for a class that very much deserves, just that!

Please remember that all of last weeks assignments are due by the end of the day Sunday.  We are working extremely hard to ensure we have reduced work to a manageable load for our students, and thus also really need our students and parents help in ensuring the work is completed each week so that we can transition to our other block.  On Monday students will begin work in their 2,4,6,&7 periods and again all of that work will be due by next Sunday, April 19th.  As part of our plan approved by the state our teachers are doing attendance on a weekly basis.  Teachers are asked to report any student we have not been able to make contact with (email, phone calls, office hours, or direct instruction)  and that has not turned in their assignments by Sunday absent for the week.  Students who have been contacted by their teacher and appears they are working on the assignments but just do not get it turned in on time will be counted present, however they will have "M" missing, or "I" Incomplete entered into the gradebooks as per our normal protocol.  Students who have had no contact, but yet still manage to complete work and turn it in on time will also be counted present.  Attendance will be dealt with in a variety of ways, including contacting you as a parent directly or continuing to try and reach student to make plans to ensure the success of your student.  Parents, your help in getting your student to be open to the communication of our teachers and/or completing their assignments by the Sunday deadline is very much appreciated.  If you are struggling to make that happen, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, the teachers, or our guidance staff directly so that we can problem solve with you.

Please remember that all of our plan, our curriculum guide, and our FAQ's are all available to you at: https://www.landerschools.org/Lander-Valley-HS just click on the LVHS Distance Learning Plan in the top left corner in the quick links section.

All Advanced Placement (AP) teachers and myself met last week to ensure that we had a solid plan moving forward to ensure our students will be set up for success in the new AP testing environment.  We have a great plan moving forward, most of which is being delivered directly to our AP students through their teachers.  More information will be coming directly from our guidance office in the weeks to come and we will all meet again in May prior to our first AP tests.  Just for your information here is the new AP testing schedule for classes that are offered at LVHS:

5/12 -- AP Calc AB/BC 12pm

5/13 -- English LIT 12pm

5/14 -- Chemistry 12pm

5/15 -- US History 12pm

5/15 -- Computer Science A 2pm (Project only, due by this date and time)

5/18 -- Biology 12pm

5/18 -- Environmental Science  2pm

5/20 -- English Language and Composition 12pm

5/22 -- Spanish Language 2pm

We have had lots of questions about picking up "stuff" from lockers etc.  That process is very fluid and available to you daily.  We have staff in the office from 8-4 daily and we just ask that you call ahead and specify exactly what you need and they will gather it all up before you arrive.  When you arrive just ring the door buzzer and someone will bring out what you requested.

Due to all of the moving parts I did not have a PIE meeting last week, however I am hosting a "virtual" PIE Meeting this week.  I have attached the invite below and encourage any and all parents to join the conversation.  We will have a StuCo member join us for an update on their current happenings including their election for next year, and I will have a department representative available as well to help give insight to our current situation from the teacher perspective.  I will also give a principal report about our plan, and also about normal things like Master Schedule and New Hires for next year.

Brad Neuendorf is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
