Basketball sweeps the weekend

Hello Tiger Fans,

Another great week is in the books for the Tigers as our boys and girls basketball teams won at both Lyman on Thursday and at home against Mountain View on Saturday.  Our wrestling team had a tough start to the weekend with a dual against Powell, but recovered nicely at the Greybull tournament with Jack Sweeney (1st), Connor Carey (3rd), and Gabe Harris (4th) all placing in their individual weight classes.  Swim won conference in Powell on Saturday with multiple meet and school records being broke.  The swimmers also earned the championship in each and every event at the conference meet.  They have a last chance meet on Thursday here at the Bruce Gresly Aquatics Center in hopes of qualifying a few more swimmers to add to the 22 that have already qualified for the state swim meet in Laramie on February 20-21.  Nordic Ski took the weekend off as they prepare to host the Lander Invite this weekend, their action begins on Friday and continues into Saturday at Beaver Creek.  Basketball is on the road Friday night, but will host Big Piney on Saturday.  Wrestling will be in town twice this week, Tuesday to make up from the cancelled dual with Rawlins and on Thursday we host the Keeper of the Gold against Riverton.  Our Speech and Debate team also took the weekend off, but will return to action this weekend with a trip to Jackson.  Our defending state champion Science Bowl team will head to Casper on Saturday to defend their crown in hopes of getting a return trip to Nationals in Washington D.C.

Thanks to everyone who made pledges to our FFA students who spent last Monday doing push-ups against Cancer.  This has become an annual tradition of the LVHS FFA Chapter, however this year they also brought on the other FFA chapters from around the county to hopefully make a bigger impact for those who are fighting against cancer.  The LVHS portion of this years proceeds will go directly to Raiden Haberman who has been fighting brain cancer for the past couple years.  Last week another group of students worked the Riverton basketball game to raise money for Raiden and the total contributions from that exceeded $3,500. Thanks to all who support this incredible student who has been an inspiration to many as he succeeds in school despite this enormous fight he his waging!  Our FBLA chapter also celebrated FBLA week and did a variety of fundraisers and fun activities throughout the week to raise funds and awareness for one of their national charities, March of Dimes.

Don't forget to mark March 10 (4-7pm), and/or March 11 (3:30-7pm) down on your calendars for our spring Parent Teacher Conferences.  Also, April 14th is our state testing date which means freshmen and sophomores will come and take the WYTOPP, while the juniors will take the ACT.  Both of these our state required tests that every student in those grades must take.  We hope that you will ensure that date is saved on your calendars to help make sure we get every single student here that day.  Seniors will only be required to come if they have been referred by a teacher.

That is all the news I have for the week, we hope to see you out supporting one or all of our sports teams this week as they start to dial things in before state.  We have had a very successful winter sports season so far and we hope that you will help cheer us on to another fantastic finish.
