Staff Portal
Creating an environment that honours Indigenous knowledge, culture, perspective and history and ensuring Indigenous students, staff and community see themselves reflected in their learning and working environments.
The Land Acknowledgement
We would like to respectfully acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the treaty and traditional territory of the Mississauga First Nations. We are grateful for our relationship with the First Nations of this territory, for their care for, and teachings about, the land, the water, and all our relations. As Treaty People we continue our journey to strengthen our understanding of our Treaty relationship and of how to move forward together in a good way. We acknowledge the contributions and accomplishments of all Indigenous people across Turtle Island, current and throughout history.
Learning Note: In making a Land Acknowledgement, it is important to also acknowledge your own personal connection to the land, and your personal responsibilities to the Treaties connected to the territory. Each of us have this responsibility as Treaty People.

The Principles of Indigenous Education
Connecting to the KPR Board Action Plan
The Indigenous Education Department is reflected in every pillar of the Board Action Plan. As you begin the work of identifying strategies and actions to bring this plan to life, here are some considerations through our lens.
What will you do?
Always use the Principles of Indigenous Education as a first lens.
The Passport to ReconciliACTION is an ideal place to start.
The Passport has been created by Indigenous voices and lived experiences specifically for the KPR community.
The Passport explores Indigenous knowledge, culture, and perspectives with local connections each month.
We have a large department representing diverse Indigenous voices. Please include us in your planning. We support every school and department in KPR.
How will you do it?
Centring Indigenous voices and lived experiences can happen through building relationships with people and/or accessing authentic texts and videos. The Indigenous Education Department can help support your goals.
Before reaching out to the community, always connect with someone in our department first.
The Holistic Approach to Indigenous Education provides a pathway to do the work. Remember to begin in the East. (We often notice educators prefer to begin in the West, but without the prior learning and experience of the East and the South, harm can happen). This is a slow, careful, thoughtful journey. As a system, we are in the East. This is a time of listening, learning, and making intentional choices for social change.
