Frequently Asked Questions

What is my role in engaging in Indigenous Education?

Indigenous Education is for everyone. It is connected to the KPR Board Action Plan. Review the KPR Principles of Indigenous Education. Reflect on ways to bring them to life through your role.

All of this is overwhelming. Where do I start?

Review the Holistic Approach to Indigenous Education. As a system we are in the East. Begin by learning more about Truth and Reconciliation.  The Passport to ReconciliACTION is an ideal place to learn as an individual or a team.

I'd like to learn more. What do you recommend?

Join the Indigenous Education Department for Lunch & Learns (12:00-1:00 pm) offered throughout the year. To accommodate those who work at the Ed Centre and those that work at alternative sites, we will use a hybrid approach.

Special Education and Mental Health Teams

From October 2022 to March 2023, over 100 KPR staff from the Special Education and Mental Health teams participated in a monthly "Braiding Sweetgrass Book Club" led by the Indigenous Education Department. 12 hours of learning! Thank you for your high level of engagement and attention. We explored the themes of the book in relation to how we work with students and staff as well as how we ground our work in what we value most. Relationships are at the centre. The land is such an incredible teacher.

“Paying attention is a form of reciprocity with the living world, receiving the gifts with open eyes and open heart.” ― Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass.
