Rather than pre-reading for the session, please use the prompts below to be able to share some current practice and reflections.
Consider the statements below and reflect: What does this look like in your setting? Is there an appropriate balance between continuous and enhanced provision ?
Be prepared to offer a recent example of each to share practice.
Continuous Provision – what is always there. Pupils can access independently – cognitive load is low. The resources provided in the indoor and outdoor classrooms for children to interact with creatively. The idea of continuous provision is that it encourages children to be active learners, to play and explore and to think critically, interacting with materials they can access day to day.
Enhanced Provision – deliberate and conscious decisions made by the practitioner(s) linked to the curriculum, using knowledge of pupils' next steps and interests. Cognitive load is higher.
