All of our academies use Walkthrus to support colleague's ongoing professional development as part of both whole school teaching and learning priorities and independent priorities through the DDI (Developmental Drop-In) process.
The DDI process
Developmental drop-ins are short lesson observations, ensuring continuous reflection on teaching and learning. These take place throughout the year, followed by coaching-style feedback using the KGA Principles of Teaching and the Walkthrus.
The Principles of Teaching
The Principles of Teaching are our non-negotiables of great teaching and learning. They are applicable to all settings and phases, and used within the DDIs as well as broader academy teaching and learning priorities.
Currently, each academy has their own version of these. The Teaching and Learning Leads from each school are working on the creation of a centralised version to ensure consistency which will be used from September 2024.
DDI Feedback
DDI feedback follows a coaching model, with a discussion of Strengths from the observation, and a coaching conversation around the Actionable Next Steps, linked to an appropriate Walkthru.
The feedback follows the cycle below.
Walkthrus
Walkthrus were designed by Tom Sherrington and Oliver Caviglioli.
They are short, five step pedagogical frameworks used to support the coaching conversation as part of the DDI feedback, and support staff in improving certain areas of teaching and learning.
At KGA we use them as the “how” of our Principles of Teaching.
You will have access to the website through your own schools' log in details, meaning that you have access to all three published books.
