The Principles of Teaching
The KGA Principles of Teaching are behaviours and actions great teachers do every lesson to create productive and inclusive classrooms so that pupils make excellent progress. They are underpinned by extensive educational research.
Quality First Teaching (QFT) refers to high-quality, inclusive classroom teaching that ensures all students, including those with additional needs, access and engage with the curriculum effectively.
The KGA Principles of Teaching embody QFT, with the six core areas of exceptional and impactful teaching practices defined: high expectations of behaviour for learning; quality of instruction; curriculum and subject knowledge; learning and making it stick; adaptive planning and responsive teaching, and effective feedback.
For pupils, our Principles of Teaching promote equity, progress, and a sense of belonging; for staff, they emphasise professional expertise, shared responsibility, and ongoing reflection.
