Introduction
“Effective teaching requires considerable knowledge and skill, which should be developed as teachers’ careers progress. High-quality professional development requires workplaces to be steeped in rigorous scholarship, with professionals continually developing and supporting each other so that pupils benefit from the best possible teaching.”
(Standard for Teachers’ Professional Development, DfE, July 2016)
King’s Group Academies is committed to ensuring that all staff are able to access high quality, transformative and relevant professional development so that we can become the best that we can and so that learning, teaching and outcomes are improved for the young people in our care.
There are a number of trustwide CPD opportunities available to all staff throughout the academic year, on top of those CPD opportunities offered in your individual schools.
The KGA ECT Programme
The ECF Core Induction Programme is a compulsory two-year programme of training for all qualified teachers in their early career years and their mentors.
We have created a holistic programme of training and delivery, to both meet the requirements of the ECF, and to support early career teachers as they begin their journey in a King's Group Academy. The personalised approach means that ECTs and their mentors will receive tailored support throughout the two years which is designed to transition seamlessly into the wider CPD offering and further career developing opportunities as they move beyond ECF and become experienced teachers.
You can access the KGA ECT Programme website here.
The KGA CPD Offer
Our KGA CPD offer runs throughout the year, with three 40 minute sessions following a strand of your choice. There are three teaching and learning strands, an aspiring leadership strand, a successful line management strand, and the essential headteacher strand. For more information on this year's CPD offer, please visit the KGA CPD: 2024-2025 page here.
We are currently looking ahead to next years offer. If you would like the opportunity to collaborate with other professional from across the Trust and facilitate a strand, we would love to hear from you at either sarah.lee@kingsacademies.uk or louisa.loney@kingsacademies.uk
The KGA Trustwide Professional Learning Day (9th February 2024)
With over 30 teaching and learning sessions delivered by our teachers for our teachers, our KGA Professional Learning Day 2024, held at King's Academy Prospect, was a true celebration of all things teaching and learning.
You can find slides and resources for all the sessions we had on offer on the KGA Professional Learning Day 2024 page here.
Pre-recorded CPD Shorts
Currently under development, we are building a resource bank of CPD Shorts covering common areas of teaching and learning to support colleagues if they want to find out more.
You can find the recordings we have so far on the Pre-recorded CPD Shorts page here.
If you think you might be interested in recording a CPD Short of your own on an area of your practice that you feel would benefit others, please get in touch at either sarah.lee@kingsacademies.uk or louisa.loney@kingsacademies.uk
Walkthrus
All our academies use Tom Sherrington's Walkthrus as the 'how' that runs alongside our Principles of Teaching to support our DDI process. You should have access to the full website resources through your own academy.
You can find out more on our Walkthrus page here.
