Introduction
“Effective teaching requires considerable knowledge and skill, which should be developed as teachers’ careers progress. High-quality professional development requires workplaces to be steeped in rigorous scholarship, with professionals continually developing and supporting each other so that pupils benefit from the best possible teaching.”
(Standard for Teachers’ Professional Development, DfE, July 2016)
King’s Group Academies is committed to ensuring that all staff are able to access high quality, transformative and relevant professional development so that we can become the best that we can and so that learning, teaching and outcomes are improved for the young people in our care.
Our KGA trust-wide CPD consists of professional development and training that is relevant across the Trust, regardless of individual school or phase. The professional development opportunities are selected in response to the teaching and learning priorities of each academy and based on the needs highlighted by the developmental drop ins.
Each CPD session lasts 40 minutes, and is founded on pedagogical research, including Walkthrus where appropriate, and led by members of staff from across the KGA group. There will be pre-reading shared a week in advance via the Google Classroom, and sessions will begin with discussion on the themes within that pre-reading. All sessions will be evaluated ahead of the next session.
The sessions are all delivered through Google Meet, and the links for the sessions can be found on the Google Calendar and Google Classroom. Staff attend the sessions with other colleagues from their academy to facilitate discussion, with cameras and microphones on. In-school Teaching and Learning Leads will share precise locations for events.

THE KGA ECM Programme
This course is for anyone who is an Early Career Mentor for KGA and supports teachers to be highly effective mentors, develop the teaching practice of others through the DDI process and get the most from the KGA Early Career Programme.
Teaching and Learning CPD
Each teaching and learning CPD has three sessions which run on a cycle throughout the year. These are a mixture of cross-phase and own-phase, and contain a range of general and subject-specific examples of the research and pedagogy in practice. We believe it is essential that we celebrate the all-through nature of our Trust, strengthening the links between primary and secondary, and learning from each other.
This year’s teaching and learning CPD offer:
Smart ways to model excellence (PoT 2)
Disciplinary Reading (PoT 3)
Making retrieval practice easy (PoT 4)
Adapting lessons for our learners (PoT 5)
Impactful, workload friendly feedback (PoT 6)
Leadership CPD
This year’s leadership CPD offer:
We are offering four separate leadership courses, each consisting of three sessions and led by KGA Leaders:
Curriculum Leadership (secondary): What you need to know about curriculum leadership if you’re thinking of moving into this area of leadership
Pastoral Leadership: What you need to know about pastoral leadership if you’re thinking of moving into this area of leadership
Primary Leadership: how to effectively lead your subject/phase
Senior Leadership: What you need to know about senior leadership if you’re thinking of becoming a senior leader
All meetings are virtual, and the link can be found via the KGA INSET Calendar and the Google Classrooms. There will be pre-reading published ahead of the live session and reflective tasks set after each session which will be handed in on Google Classroom. Please speak with your line manager if you need any support accessing any of these.
In order to make the sessions as interactive as possible, please join in a group with your colleagues where possible, and have microphone and camera on.
