For this critical evaluation, we will be grading each app using Claudia Haines’ 2016 rubric Evaluating Apps and New Media for Young Children. Using a point system, each app strives to obtain the highest number of points possible. We will be evaluating the technical and user experience for all apps. We will also be evaluating how a print book has been transformed for the digital environment. Toy apps will be evaluated based on the cohesiveness of all activities throughout the app without the benefit of a narrative found in a story. Each app strives to earn a perfect score of 22. Some of our apps are not designed for story or play activity. Those apps, which are noted, used only Part 1 of the rubric for a maximum score of 11.
