Review: Wheelmap is an online map designed to provide information on wheelchair accessible places for the mobility impaired community. In the same vein as a Google map, users can enter a city or specific address and see wheelchair accessible places in and around that address. Users experience ease when using the app with wheelchair accessible locations being color coded on the map with green (fully wheelchair accessible), yellow (partially wheelchair accessible), and red (not wheelchair accessible) indicators. The app is not the most intuitive and tends to be difficult to maneuver. Wheelmap allows users to contribute information about destinations to expand information about wheelchair accessibility to the greatest degree. However, there is still much information that is missing from the app about most locations, even in large cities where the foot traffic would be heavier. iTunes recommends usage for those aged 4+. Wheelmap does not offer any creativity for a child user and would best be used as a tool for a parent or caregiver scoping out wheelchair accessible destinations for those who are mobility impaired in their parties.
