HAPPY BIRTHDAY BCI!
We celebrated Tuesday as a staff BCI's 5oth birthday with cake, cookies, and a wonderful lunch sponsored by our PTA! We are ready to welcome our Braves soon to start another school year!
MEDICATION DROP OFF!!
I am Melissa Kennerty (Nurse Melissa), and I am the new school nurse this year at BCI. I am so excited to kick off a new school year! I will be in the school clinic during open house to meet you and your students, collect forms and medications, and answer any questions you may have. If your student has a medical need or medication that will be given at school, please review all the following information. You may turn in prefilled forms or I can provide you with all the forms you need in the clinic. If you are dropping off medication, please make sure that all medication is in the labeled unexpired bottle and has the current dose to be given listed on the bottle. We cannot share medications between students. Please label each over the counter medication with your student’s first and last name and grade level.
Action Plans (allergy, asthma, diabetic, seizure, emergency condition): this must be filled out for specific treatment related to your student's medical condition (ex epi pen, inhalers, or other medication or treatment). These forms must be signed by a doctor and completed each school year.
Medication Administration Form: this form must be filled out for all medications that may be given at school including EpiPens and inhalers.
Self-Administration of Asthma/Anaphylaxis Medication Form: If you want your student to carry their own inhaler or EpiPen, please fill out this form. Students may not carry any medication on campus without this completed form turned in to the school nurse. These forms must be signed by a doctor and completed each school year.
The Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, and Dress Code are very important to review with your child prior to the year starting. We will be reviewing expectations with our students at the beginning as well as throughout the year. Students will be signing that they attended our review. The signature page is found below. Thank you in advance for taking time to read through and discuss with your child the expectations that are set.
Technology Pick Up
Last Friday was the last day of picking up technology during the day. You do have one more time to pick up technology prior to school starting which are the following days and times:
MEET THE TEACHER NIGHTS:
5th Grade August 10th 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
6th Grade August 11th 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
(Due to the amount of technology still needing to be checked out, prepare for lines on Meet The Teacher nights. We appreciate you patience and understanding.)
If you are unable for you and your student to come on the Meet The Teacher nights, no worries! Your students will be able to receive his/her device when school starts!
MEET BCI STAFF
Using the above link, hear from our staff members! You will hear who they are, what they do at BCI, which House they are in, and an interesting fact about them. After schedules are received next week, go back and relisten to your teachers!
Just so you know...
UPDATED INFORMTION!!!!!!!
Schedules will NOW be available in Aeries on August 10th! 5th grade, this means that you will be able to see your schedule prior to coming to Meet the Teacher Night! 6th grade, you still will be able to view your schedule prior to your Meet the Teacher Night. We highly encourage you to take a picture of the schedule from Aeries just in case lines are long. That way, you can still "walk the schedule." Just as a reminder, a paper copy of your child's schedule will be in his/her 0 Period class.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES!
Below are the 5th and 6th grade lists for supplies. The closer we get to Meet the Teacher Night(s), we will communicate out where the supplies can be housed. We do NOT want students to have to carry in all of the supplies on the first day. Plan on sending students with something to write one, something to write with, and a folder to place any papers in.
We have extra supply boxes in our office! If you are interested in purchasing on, please call 817-744-3650!
Let us help you with supplies!
Here is a chart to let you know the supplies needed for each content area as well as general supplies. Please note that on the first day of school, your child will only need to bring something to write with, write on, and place papers in. Then, the next days, they can bring their supplies in!
5th grade - please note the days you bring supplies for the content areas highlighted in yellow.

Lockers! YES!
We know that there is a lot of excitement when it comes to receiving a locker as well as decorating a locker - some for the first time. We also know that there is a lot of apprehension of remembering the locker number as well as the combination! Please set your child's mind at ease. Teachers have had years of experience of teaching this skill. Also, teachers will also be giving plenty of time for students to practice.
If you are planning on coming up to school on Saturday, August 19th, anywhere from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM for locker decoration, please follow these expectations:
Locker dimensions - Length - 28 inches; Width - 9 3/4 inches
Refrain from adhering any decorations to the outside of the locker.
As long as items can be easily removed WITHOUT damaging the surface of the locker, it will be fine to use.
Remember that the purpose of the locker is for a safe place to store backpacks, books, etc... If the decor takes up too much space, it will defeat the purpose of this space.
Talk through with your child how they will keep his/her locker number/combo with them throughout the day. Soon, he/she will have it memorized, however, the first week, having a place in a folder may be a good idea. :)
Lockers will be given to students on the first day of school.

KISD is required to provide bus service to eligible students who live more than two miles from their campus of regular attendance and for special needs students who require transportation to attend school.

BCI PTA is looking forward to another year of supporting our students and school. Please visit BCIPTA.org for more information on how to get plugged in this year!
BCI PLAYLIST VIDEOS
We have made a few videos in the past that have helped families navigate some of the new expectations. Even though some of the participants you may see in these videos may not be on campus next year, the message is still important. You will hear about how to read a paper schedule, how our drop off and pick up works, and about other procedures. Once all staff has returned, we will work on updating!
