A MESSAGE FROM KMS COUNSELORS!

7th Grade Registration Timeline and Events:

Keller Middle School Counselors are working on updating all registration documents to ensure they are in alignment with any changes at the district level. The week of February 5th, we will roll out the registration site, informational videos and Google form to select classes. This will give you 2 weeks to gather information and discuss the best options for your student.

Virtual Student Lessons

February 6th - 14th: Students will be watching video lessons created by KMS Counselors. Topics covered include class options & descriptions, general electives, electives requiring an application, and Athletics and PE options. Students will receive a course selection worksheet to plan and make notes on. This will not be turned in, just used as a tool for planning.

Parent Meeting

February 13th 5:30pm @KMS in the Cafeteria: KMS counselors are hosting a parent night at KMS. This will be a slideshow presentation and Q&A. The information presented will be similar to what the students have received in small bites during the video lessons in class and this presentation will also be found on the Registration Portal site. This site is currently being updated and not available yet.

Keller Middle School Counselors Visit BCI

During the morning meeting at BCI on February 14th,  KMS counselors will be available to help answer any questions as students are completing their course selections in the Google form.

Course Requests Due February 16th via Google form. The students will complete these forms at school on February 14th. The form is not available yet but we will let you know when it is finalized.

6th Grade Parent Information:

Dear Families,

We are writing to inform you of a mandatory state testing activity that will take place for 6th grade students on February 8, 2024. This is part of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) program, which evaluates the academic progress of students in public schools and charter schools. As you may know, STAAR® was redesigned in 2022–2023 to better align with classroom instruction and to include more writing and open-ended questions. To develop future STAAR® tests with these features, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) needs to conduct a stand-alone field test with a sample of students across the state. Unfortunately, we will not be able to get any results of the test.

The 6th Grade Reading stand-alone field test will be administered online for 6th grade students on February 8, 2024. Testing will occur from 7:45-10:26am. All 6th grade students who are scheduled to take the STAAR® test in spring 2024 will participate in the field test, unless they need an accommodation that is not available for the field test. The field test will not affect your child's grades or academic record.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in this important state testing activity. The field test will help ensure that future STAAR® tests are valid, reliable, and fair for all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the campus testing coordinator, Kristy Oboyski.

Hello, BCI 6th graders!  Keller Middle School is excited to embark on the 2024- 2025 school year and looks forward to meeting our incoming 7th graders. There are several events coming up providing opportunities to learn more about middle school as well as what courses your child can sign up for.

The most valuable resource of information will be our Registration Portal and Website This site contains information about core classes as well as electives offered at KMS. Please explore the slide presentation, video as well as the 7th grade tab at the top.

Road Construction on Pate Orr Road

An email was sent on November 13th making our families aware of the upcoming construction to Pate Orr Road. We wanted to post it here as well in case anyone did not see the email.

We will not be making any changes to our dismissal procedures at this time.

The City of Keller has notified us it will be performing construction on South Pate Orr Road beginning Monday, November 13, that will last through April 2024 and will result in the closure of the west side of the road, allowing only northbound one-way traffic. The road will be closed to southbound traffic throughout the construction period, with the exception of local traffic navigating between Keller Parkway and Brookstone Court.

Keller ISD bus routes will be adjusted accordingly. Please be aware of this lengthy road closure if your typical commute involves traveling south down Pate Orr, and expect increased traffic within the area as residents navigate other routes around this closure.

If you haven't had a chance, please take a moment to read over the Surface Go Care/Replacement details posted to the Keller ISD website. You will find the link below.

Student Recognition

We love to recognize our students as they continue to grow academically and also in their character.  Instead of waiting to celebrate these accomplishments at the end of the year, we like to celebrate each nine weeks their accomplishments!  Please see the specific awards given below.

Every 9 weeks we like to recognize students with the following:

We also have monthly recognition with the following character awards:

CROSSWALK:  In the morning, we ask you to continue to pull up to the second crosswalk where you see staff.  If you do not follow this step, safety will be a high concern for students and for staff.  Once it hits 7:40 AM, a staff member will then move up to the crosswalk next to the awning.  You may then stop and use this crosswalk since there is now a staff member present.

Now that everyone has become familiar with our drop off/pick up lanes, you may choose the outside lane or inside line for drop off.   This way, if the outside lane has less cars, you can take advantage of moving forward.

Parents who choose to walk up and meet their students may do so at the West side bike rack or the North side crosswalk. We ask that parents do not come up to the awning area where students and staff are dismissing as this may cause confusion and distracts our teachers from their duties.
