EMAIL SENT OUT ON MARCH 27th
Brave Parents,
As April 8th’s total eclipse is quickly approaching, I would like to communicate with you our plans for viewing such an event as this!
The path of totality begins in North Texas around 1:40 P.M. During a total solar eclipse, the moon passes between the sun and Earth, completely blocking the sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. This event marks the last TOTAL solar eclipse visible from the United States until 2044.
In order to experience such a cosmic phenomenon safely, we will be reviewing our rules/expectations with students as well as share with you the expectations so that you, too, can review with your child.
Attached to this email you will find an OPT OUT form that you are welcome to fill out if you would like for your child to stay inside during this event. If you are needing a paper copy, we will have those available in the front office for pick up. Please have your student turn the OPT OUT form into their 0 Period teacher by April 5th, Friday.
Here are some key points about April 8th (weather permitting):
If you would like to join us to share this experience with your child, we ask that you pre-register by filling out the following form: Pre-Registration for Eclipse - Google Forms By doing this, your sticker will be prepared prior to this day and your check in experience will be faster. Pre-registration is open and will be until April 5th at 2:00 P.M. We will ask for you to show up to campus for this event between 1:05 and 1:20 P.M. The office will then start to prepare to go outside to experience this event at 1:30 P.M. More information/reminders will be given next week.
Parents will be able to park either in our east parking lot or Bear Creek Park. Be cognizant of abiding by our fire lane markings.
Restrooms inside our building will not be available for visitors.
Since the start of the partial eclipse phase starts around 12:20 P.M., our 6th graders will have recess in the A.M. instead of their regular time.
Rules and information about April 8th will be reviewed in science classrooms on either April 4th or 5th. (The lesson will be sent out to parents on April 4th so that you can review.)
Staff and students will be receiving appropriate eyewear to view the eclipse - ISO 12312-2 (Pictures attached.) While you are invited to come watch the eclipse with your child, please note that we do not have extra viewing glasses.
We will be outside on the east playground. Students will be outside from 1:20 to 2:00 P.M. We will encourage students to bring a beach towel so that they will be able to have a seat. Parents, feel free to bring lawn chairs.
Our office will be closed from 1:30 P.M. to 1:45 P.M. so that our staff can also enjoy the totality. If you are needing to call the school, you will still be able to reach an office staff member. If your child is needing an early dismissal between 1:15 and 2:00 P.M., we ask that you come at 1:00 P.M. Due to keeping our students and staff safe while we are outside, we will not be able to have early dismissals between 1:15 and 2:00 PM.
We are all excited to have this opportunity to experience together. We will be sending out another emailed towards the end of next week to share with you expectations that will be reviewed and how you can come experience the eclipse with your child.

Bear Creek Intermediate Parents,
The Big Event is coming to Keller ISD on Saturday, April 6, and we are so excited for our campus to participate!
As background, The Big Event is a district-wide day of service open to all KISD students, their families, and staff members from each of KISD’s 42 campuses. The event is designed to not only join and unite our district and campus together through service-oriented activities, but also to express gratitude for the support of the communities who give back to KISD each and every day. Think of it as a giant, tangible “Thank you.”
On April 6, each KISD campus will come together at the same times across our district and the surrounding communities to serve and give back. I’m excited to share that Bear Creek Intermediate will be participating in the following activities on the day of The Big Event, and your student(s) and your family are invited to join us:
9-11:00 a.m.:
(1) Donation Drive for items needed for animals at Keller Regional Animal Center! (Please see attached to get ideas of what can be donated!) From 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, you can drop off your donation(s) on the east side (front loop) of Bear Creek Intermediate. You will see a table set up with staff members ready to receive your donation(s) for such a wonderful cause. Remember to check the flyer to get more specifics!
(3) GaGa Ball Pit – This has already been completed due to our WONDERFUL volleyball nets being installed prior to break. If you signed up for this event, thank you for your interest, however, it has been completed!
(5) Let’s keep our campus and park clean! We are looking for volunteers to help beautify our facilities and Keller’s Bear Creek Park by picking up litter. Since part of this activity is off campus, your student will need to be accompanied by an adult. You will come to campus at 9:00 AM to receive trash bags and disposable gloves. If you would like to wear your own gloves, that would be a great option! If you fill a trash bag on our campus, please dispose of it in our garbage bin located outside our cafeteria. If you fill a trash bag in Bear Creek Park, please leave any trash bags at the location you filled it (off sidewalks). They will be picked up by the Parks and Rec crew.
12-2 p.m.:
(2) Back-A-Bit Farm – Do you love animals? Do you love taking care of animals or working on a farm? Then this is an opportunity for you! (Student(s) must have an adult with them the full time at this event.) Back-A-Bit Farm mentioned that they will know more specific needs closer to the events, however, a few ideas of what could be done are the following: moving mulch, cleaning up barn aisles/stalls, some clean-up jobs around the back field, moving wood piles, spreading straw, etc... You will need to drive to this location and sign in with your student or small group with a member from BCI. (Location is 1354 Melody Lane, Keller 76262). Check out their Facebook page Back A Bit Farm!
(4) Have you ever played basketball or 4 square without any lines?!? ABSURD! Let’s stop this madness and PAINT THE LINES! You will need to check in on the west side of campus for this event. Dress code: keep in mind you will be around paint!
(6) Painting Rocks with Mrs. Linder: Do you want to beautify the campus/Bear Creek Park by designing a painted rock? Well then this is your lucky day! You will be invited into the art room to decorate! You will hear more about where to place the masterpieces (painted rock(s)) on campus OR in Bear Creek Park. IF your child wants to place it in the park, he/she will need to have an adult with them since this is off campus.
You can sign your child and your family up to volunteer and sign the district’s liability waiver on KISD’s secure Web Store here. (There is also a QR Code at the bottom of this email that will take you to the Web Store, as well.) To access the Web Store, parents/students must log in with their student ID number and student’s last name (in upper/lowercase letters). Once logged in, you should see your child’s name at the top of the screen. After clicking on your child’s name, you will see a search feature at the top of the screen. Type “Big” in the search field and click search. You will be taken straight to the Big Event items for your child’s campus.
Be on the lookout next month for an email containing a reminder of specific, day-of details for the job(s) you signed up for. Note that we’re asking each student to wear their Bear Creek Intermediate T-shirt on the day of The Big Event, so be sure you locate that today! And get your social media accounts ready to share photos of your family volunteering; follow Keller ISD on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter); tag the district; and be sure to use the hashtag #KISDBigEvent24!
This event is not mandatory, but we would love to have as many Bear Creek families, students, teachers, and staff participate in this special day. This is a family-centered event, so we’d ask that families attend with their children if possible. Additionally, service hours for organizations like National Honor Society (NHS), National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), Eagle Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. will be granted for participation in The Big Event.
Attached to this email is a helpful Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document, and you can also find more information at: www.kellerisd.net/bigevent. We are so excited about The Big Event and hope you’ll make plans to join us (or the campus of another child in your family) on Saturday, April 6, to serve and give back!
Sincerely,
Brenda Riebkes
BCI Principal

Brave Parents -
This letter is to remind you of testing dates for STAAR and some other reminders that all need to be aware of.
First, testing dates. Keep in mind that on the following dates our campus will be a CLOSED campus. This means that visitors will not be allowed. We appreciate your understanding since our priority on these days is to keep our testing environments as quiet as possible for our Braves.
READING STAAR
April 16 (Tuesday)
5th and 6th grade
SCIENCE STAAR
April 23 (Tuesday)
5th grade only
MATH STAAR
April 30 (Tuesday)
5th and 6th grade
During testing days, students are allowed to have a water bottle and a snack during the testing time. One BIG request we have is that the snack is something that will not cause a problem with the items they use for testing (ie computer, scratch paper, etc…) So, stay away from snacks that are loud when eating (ie chips), cause fingers/hands to get sticky or leave crumbs, and if it comes wrapped, please unwrap and place the snack in a baggie. Also, remember to stay away from peanut products.
Students will be going to their testing centers the Monday PRIOR to testing in order to turn in their laptop, charger, and earbuds. This way, the computers will be updated with what is needed, Laptops will be charged, and everyone will be prepared for Tuesday! Test administrators will be reviewing with their testing students where certain supplies are located, sign out sheets, how the testing environment will be set up, and answering any questions that may pop up. We want to ensure that all students know where to report on Tuesday so that the day starts off smoothly for all.
On testing days, students will follow the same procedures. At 7:30 AM, students will report directly to their testing centers. Test administrators will start reviewing expectations at 7:45 AM and the directions for the test will start at 8:00 AM.
As always, thank you for your constant support.
