Breaking out of the egg shell can take up to 18 hours!
When the chick is ready, it uses a special little bump on its beak called an egg tooth to crack the shell.
After cracking out of the shell the hatchling is wet.
It will still stay under its mother hen to keep warm for the first 24 hours, or until dry.
When you can see the hatchling is all fluffy, it is a chick!
