Adult

As an adult, the axolotl still lives in the water and keeps its gills.

If there is no water, an axolotl grows lungs and becomes a land animal!

It can grow to be about 9-12 inches long, with soft skin and little webbed feet.

Axolotls are known as "walking fish" because they have legs and can walk along the bottom of lakes and rivers!
