LAPSEE thinks picture books can create endless worlds where children become the storytellers.
Since its inception, LAPSEE has been committed to promoting media literacy education, showing teachers that a single picture book can serve as the foundation for a meaningful "media literacy" lesson. From their very first teaching material using the well-liked picture book, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, to today, they have received enthusiastic feedback from schools, institutions, and educators across the country. Many of their partner organizations and trained teachers continue to use these resources, helping more children develop media literacy skills.
However, as media constantly evolves, one picture book alone is not enough to equip children with critical thinking skills. That’s why LAPSEE aims to capture the valuable insights they've gained over the past two years, transforming essential media literacy concepts into engaging stories presented through picture books.
This storybook, Oh, No! Great Crisis in Media Town, was written by Teacher Uni, the co-founder of LAPSEE. The story follows different media villages as they argue over which type of media is the best and who should control the information people receive.
Through this engaging and open-ended tale, readers can explore the advantages and disadvantages of both traditional and new media. With its fun and interactive approach, the book makes it easy for young children to understand the evolving media landscape while learning important media literacy skills.
