LAPSEE is an organization dedicated to helping children develop media literacy skills. Recognizing the lack of clear guidelines in Taiwan’s 12-Year Basic Education Curriculum, LAPSEE aims to fill this gap by making media literacy education accessible and engaging. Through interactive lessons, they use simple language and relatable topics to spark children’s curiosity and critical thinking.
What makes LAPSEE unique is its passionate team of young people, with members not only in Taiwan but also in Sweden and the United States. Despite time zone differences, they consistently collaborate online to drive their mission forward. The name "LAPSEE" originates from the Finnish word lapsi, meaning "child," inspired by Finland’s strong media literacy education. Additionally, it sounds similar to 來剖析 (lai po si), which reflects the organization’s goal of fostering critical thinking and analytical skills in learners. LAPSEE aspires to bring the same high standards to Taiwan.
Although some members are teachers, the team’s average age is only 25, making them a dynamic and innovative force in education. Their efforts have gained strong support from the Ministry of Education, including participation in the Youth Development Administration’s Young Flying Global Action Plan and the U-start Plan. Additionally, they have successfully got enrolled in the Corporate Accelerator Program at National Taiwan University’s Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
So far, LAPSEE has delivered countless media literacy lessons in elementary and junior high schools, experimental education institutions, churches, and online. With their ongoing dedication, they continue to expand their impact, helping more children develop essential media literacy skills for the digital age.
In an interview, Teacher Uni (the first from the right), LAPSEE’s co-founder, shared the challenges they face. Limited time for promotion and a general lack of awareness about media literacy make their mission difficult. As a result, many people are more vulnerable to fake news and sensationalized headlines. LAPSEE hopes to combat misinformation and create a safer, more informed digital space for learning and social interaction.
Recognizing the challenges educators face in teaching media literacy—whether it’s not knowing where to start or struggling to find suitable materials—LAPSEE was inspired to develop a dedicated resource for children’s media literacy education.
As the demand for media literacy education grows, this new resource aims to provide teachers and students with an engaging, accessible way to explore critical thinking in the digital age.
"Thinking as the starting point; freedom as the ultimate goal." — LAPSEE's motto
