Program of Study

AY 2023-24

Philosophy

This page has been developed to assist students in planning an academic schedule that will meet their individual needs, interests, and goals for further education.

Parents and students of G11-G12 should carefully read the Program of Studies and related information.  The inclusion of a course on this page does not guarantee that the course will be offered or necessarily fit into the student’s schedule, as scheduling of courses is dependent on a minimum number of students signing up to take the course, and the most effective utilization of teachers.  The school reserves the right to cancel any course for administrative reasons.

The Senior High School Program (G11-G12) at KCIS is designed to prepare students for college and university admission.  Students are advised to take courses that are academically challenging and meet the admission requirements of universities in the country in which they intend to study.  Be sure to choose courses that are suited to individual interests and occupational plans.

KCIS offers Honors, Advance Placement (AP) courses, Advance Placement (AP) Capstone Program, and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.  These are college-level courses that give students the opportunity to study individual subjects in depth. Students are challenged to work hard in order to learn as much as they can about a subject, to discover new interests, and to prepare themselves for the rigors of college work.  90% of colleges and universities in the United States give credit and/or advanced standing to students with AP examination scores of 3 or higher.  This is determined by individual institutions.

In KCIS, we believe that:

The curriculum should be flexible so as to accommodate all levels of ability and reflect both affective and cognitive goals.

Teaching strategies should be flexible, creative, sensitive, and varied to actively engage the student in the learning process.

Students should have the opportunity to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. Students also need to develop self-responsibility, self-insight, and self-esteem.

Administrators should be readily available to both students and teachers, they and should maintain a level of discipline which is fair, clearly defined, and consistent.  Administrators must work as a team with teachers, be able to make decisions, and support teachers.

Teachers should be caring and dedicated to the profession they have chosen, and serve as role models for their students, encouraging positive attitudes and behaviors in these students.

The discipline code should be uniform and fairly enforced.

Students should be encouraged to develop a sense of community and citizenship.

Parents should be responsible for their children and supportive of school policies.

Graduation requirements

KCIS-Xiugang Campus requires every high school student to complete four full years.  Students must be enrolled in eight periods daily.  Kang Chiao International School adopts the Ministry of Education’s credit-based system which is reflected in the student’s transcript. To graduate and secure admissions to universities abroad, high school students from grades nine to twelve must complete the following course requirements.
