Curriculum Overview
At Kang Chiao International School - Taipei Campus, we strive to provide a comprehensive education that aligns with our School-wide Learning Outcomes (SLOs): G.R.E.A.T. Our curriculum reflects our mission and shares the philosophy of all IB World Schools, which is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who contribute to creating a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Our international program is taught primarily in English, except for Foreign Languages and Chinese subjects. The curriculum we offer is challenging and rigorous and follows state standards, the Common Core (CCSS), and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) combined with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme. Upon graduation, KCIS students receive a High School Diploma and may earn either the IB Diploma or Advanced Placement (AP) credits.
For grades 7 to 10, we implement the IB Middle Years Programme framework in the organization of courses, delivery of content and skills, and assessment of students. This framework caters to the needs of our students while complying with national requirements and preparing them for the rigorous programs offered in grades 11 and 12.
Grades 11 and 12 students have three different academic programs to choose from - The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, The Advanced Placement Program, and the KCIS High School Program. These programs are taught in self-contained classrooms with departmentalization for high school students.
KCIS - Taipei Campus is authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, Middle Years Programme, and the Advanced Placement Capstone™ Program.
To this end, KCIS offers
19 IB Diploma Programme courses
22 Advanced Placement Program® courses
18 elective courses

Assessment and Reporting of Grades
The primary aim of assessment at Kang Chiao International School-Taipei Campus is to support student learning. The KCIS community understands that assessment is a powerful learning tool that assists in assessing how well a student is progressing in a course, and for gathering accurate information on whether learning outcomes have been met. It is an ongoing process, based on multiple sources of evidence, designed to inform both teachers and learners, allows students to take responsibility for their work, and to support their growth as lifelong learners.
Assessment at KCIS is an ongoing process and categorized into three (3) types
Formative - assessment for learning (ongoing throughout each unit)
Summative - assessment of learning (every end of the unit)
School-based - KCIS uses NWEA MAP, a computer adaptive interim assessment given three times a year. The data enables teachers to differentiate instruction based on a student's RIT scores, and the scores are also a criterion in placing students in appropriate levels.
The grading system for middle school (IB MYP) & high school (IB DP) is criterion-based using a 7-point scale following the assessment principles of the International Baccalaureate, whereas the AP Program and regular high school program follow the GPA system. KCIS provides a conversion table to a student's future schools so they may be able to translate the IB number grade if necessary.
Student performance in KCIS will be reported in two separate ways:
Academic Grades - overall evaluation of a student's achievement
Interim Grades
Final Grades
Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills attainment (behaviors that promote learning). This is framed using the IB ATL skills aligned to KCIS student learning outcomes.
Four indicators report ATL skill attainment
Exceeding Expectations (EE)
Meeting Expectations (ME)
Approaching Expectations (AE)
Below Expectations (BE)
