World Languages
The World Language Program at KCIS-Taipei Campus offers students in Grades 10 to 12 the opportunity to develop proficiency in multiple languages, including Japanese, French, and German. The program is rooted in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards, with a focus on the five "C" goal areas: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. These goal areas emphasize applying language learning beyond the classroom to foster global competence, preparing students for academic, career-related, and personal engagement in multilingual settings. The courses are designed using Backward Design to align learning objectives, assessments, and activities that build toward these standards.
Program Goals and Standards
Communication: Students will communicate effectively in more than one language, demonstrating the ability to function in various real-world situations and for diverse purposes.
Cultures: Students will interact with cultural competence, displaying an understanding of how language and culture influence communication and behaviors in different societies.
Connections: Students will make connections between the language and other academic disciplines, acquiring new information and perspectives to apply the language in professional, academic, and personal contexts.
Comparisons: Students will develop insights into the nature of language and culture through comparisons, enhancing their ability to interact with diverse communities and fostering greater linguistic and cultural understanding.
Communities: Students will actively engage in multilingual communities both locally and globally, using their language skills to participate in cultural exchanges and contribute to diverse societies.
This program is designed to prepare students for future opportunities where multilingual competence is essential, whether in academic settings, career environments, or international engagement. Through the backward design model, each course ensures a progression from foundational skills to advanced language application, with real-world relevance at its core.
