The department focuses on how business and economics help shape the world we live in. As liberal economic thought strives to lift populations out of poverty through global trade, how can we respond to populist governments' attempts to restrict trade through tariffs, taxes, and boycotts? How should companies respond to citizens who demand they take responsibility for the environmental impact of production? And how can we protect endangered species, populations, and cultures as globalization wraps the world in a blanket of uniformity? These are questions that the next generation of business and economic leaders must answer.

Students who graduate from this program will be able to:

understand the historical role of business and economics in world events.

identify and interpret the pros and cons of characteristics in different economic models.

analyze the results of economic choices made by governments and businesses, and how they impact stakeholders.

evaluate theoretical solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems

determine how business and economic development can help a population benefit from events that unfold around it.
