English
English is a required course in each year of high school. At KCIS, the role of the English teacher is to encourage students to think critically, examine effectively, and master the use of language in both written and spoken form. These skills are also critical in the development of lifelong learning and responsible global participation.
Writing skills are developed through reading and writing practice as well as through constructive criticism from peers and instructors. The study of literature should both challenge and stimulate students’ minds by broadening their perception of the world and its people.
Students will be able to do the following:
View the world through different cultures and perspectives and recognize that there is a common link amongst humans regardless of culture, distance, or time.
Understand linguistic structures as they express ideas and present clear arguments.
Expand upon the development of specific themes and literary concepts.
Build on the reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills learned in Middle School.
