The Arts Department at Kang Chiao International School adheres to the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) framework, offering Visual Arts and Theater for students in Grades 7-9. The department aims to foster a deep appreciation for the arts while helping students develop both technical and analytical skills.

Key goals include:

Gaining a comprehensive knowledge of Art History and understanding the significance of art within various cultures.
Developing an understanding of design concepts and the language of design.
Learning to analyze and interpret artworks, enabling students to "make sense" of an artist's visual language and discuss or write about their observations in a mature, coherent manner.
Providing opportunities for students to create their own artworks, encouraging them to express personal interpretations and narratives visually.

The department emphasizes inquiry-based learning, creativity, and critical thinking, allowing students to engage meaningfully with the arts while developing their own artistic voice.

Students will be able to do the following:

Create a variety of two and three-dimensional artworks with appropriately chosen media.
Apply the design elements and principles to visually communicate individual feelings, moods, and ideas.
Show sensitivity to their environment by creating an artistic statement expressing personal viewpoints.
Demonstrate an understanding of aesthetic values by critiquing two and three-dimensional art.
Understand how art varies within and between particular historical periods or styles.
Understand how works of art are tempered by culture and history.
