Science

It is the goal of KCIS Science department to have students engage in a variety of science activities that will not only help them to prepare for the rigors of higher level science courses, but also foster in them a lifelong interest in science exploration.

Through this process of participation in science activities, KCIS science students learn how to conduct scientific inquiry and to examine ideas and topics using the scientific method. Students will also learn how to make scientific observations, record data, conduct research, and take notes. Students will learn to perform experiments, work safely in a laboratory, use common laboratory equipment, utilize graphs, understand units of measure and collaborate as an effective team member.

Students in middle and high school will also develop the eight practices of science and engineering, as described in the NGSS Framework:

KCIS-Taipei campus began offering the Synthetic Biology Research Program. This program allows high school students to participate in advanced biomedical research while also learning practical skills. The program encourages community and industry involvement, broadens students' understanding of scientific research, and promotes lifelong learning.

Participants also compete in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition.

ORION

The ORION Project is an off-campus experiential research programme available to Grade 11 students.  The placements are at graduate-level laboratories and/or courses with select academics at top-tier universities or institutes in Taiwan.  The selected students are expected to actively contribute to the work conducted in the research laboratory or research course while balancing the demands of their high school life.  Through this experience, the selected students will gain insights into their chosen future career paths; gain valuable, hands-on experience; and develop and refine a wide range of personal and professional skills.
