Lenet Hargraves as Amina

I’m Lanet Hargraves. I am a 1st year acting major at Howard University. I love acting because it instills a confidence within me, and when I act I know that there is nothing else I’d rather be doing.




About Amina: Amina Adeleke is 18 years old, as a Nigerian American she lives between both worlds living up to impossible standards from her family as well as following her own passions, she is an only child, and is quite sarcastic, at odds with her overbearing mother, Amina wants to live ambitiously while her mother desires the opposite.

Sam Mercury as Halima

Sam Mercury is 27 years old, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Theatre and Performance from the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario. She will be playing the role of Halima.


About Halima: Halima Adeleke is a 49 year old, Nigerian American, Single mother to Amina Adeleke. Halima is passionate about her daughters future in the sciences so that she can have an easy life, an ambition not shared by her own daughter. An outsider in her village Halima always found trouble and sees herself in Amina so that she does not make the same mistake.

Mecca Bryant as Iya Funke and Courtney

My name is Mecca Is. I am 23. I attended Bowie State University. I major in Fine Arts concentration in Studio Arts. I will be playing the role of Courtney/ Iya Funke.


About Iya Funke: Iya is a close friend to Halima, who shares similar values to that of both Halima and Mummy Tunde, often poking fun at Halima for being a bad cook, Iya also enjoys poking fun at Amina, for her young kid lingo, and encourages Amina with her studies.


About Courtney: Courtney, is an 18 year old, and best friend to Amina. As a foil to the ambitious Amina, Courtney is often opposed to Amina's shenanigans who "...doesn't understand her choice of men" yet Courtney is loyal and will always stand by her side.

Delasia Vanterpool as Mummy Tunde

I'm Delasia Vanterpool and I’m 20 years old. The school I go to is Queensborough Community College , my major is Theater Acting. My character is Mummy Tunde/ and the Nurse


About Mummy Tunde: Mummy Tunde is a friend of Halima, she is a Nigerian American woman who shares similar values to that of her close friends Iya Funke and Halima Adeleke, who shares a similar passion for Amina to be successful.

Emmanuel James West as Derek

Emmanuel West is a Senior and a theatre major at Bowie State University. He has previous acting experience at Frostburg State University, Most notably performing in shows such as Five by Ives and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, all while playing many different characters at once throughout the shows. He has lived in Baltimore county his whole life and has a love for acting/performing! He’ll be serving the role of Derek for the stage read of OMO MI by Sadia Alao, and he’s super excited for the debut! About Derek: Derek is a charming 22 year old, who is Amina's "boyfriend", or in his mind, it's a totally different thing. Derek is an aspiring rapper who has a passion for music, as well as a passion for both shoe game and marijuana.

Lorenzo Henriquez as Uncle Lasun

Lorenzo Miguel is a graduating senior Theatre Major at Bowie State University with a concentration in Acting/Directing. Previous credits include: Blues For An Alabama Sky, #metoo, Reparations, && more. He is excited to be playing Uncle Lasun in Omo Mi. He would like to thank his family and the entire faculty & student body at Bowie State University for their continuous and undying support and love.


About Uncle Lasun: As the silly and flamboyant opposite to Halima, he is Amina's Uncle and the brother to Halima. He often regales of stories of Halima's past in an animated fashion as well as being a good support system for Amina.
