河辺の「浪漫八橋」

大洲市河辺町には明治、大正、昭和、平成に架けられた八つの屋根付橋があり、「浪漫八橋」と呼ばれています。全国でも珍しい屋根のついた橋は、せめて橋の上だけでも雨露をしのげるようにという先人の知恵と優しさから造られたものと言われます。その思いを現代に受け継ぎ、河辺町の歴史的遺産として保存されています。

河辺・浪漫八橋「豊年橋」（ほうねんばし）

大正時代に河辺川（一級河川）に架かっていた木橋の屋根付き橋が昭和26年に取り壊されることとなり、その屋根付き橋の材料を住民が譲り受けて、自宅近くの小川に移設したというユニークな歴史を持ちます。コンパクトで愛らしい橋です。 ※長さ 3.3m

The "Eight Romantic Bridges" in Kawabe

There are eight covered bridges in Kawabe-cho, Ozu City, built in the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, and Heisei eras, and they are called "Roman eight bridges. It is said that these bridges with roofs, which are rare in Japan, were built out of the wisdom and kindness of our ancestors, who wanted at least the tops of the bridges to be sheltered from the rain and dew. The bridge has been preserved as a historical legacy of Kawabe Town, carrying on the spirit of the ancestors.

Kawabe, Romantic Eight Bridges "Hounen Bridge" (Hounenbashi)

It has a unique history: a wooden covered bridge that spanned the Kawabe River (a first-class river) in the Taisho era (1912-1926) was torn down in 1951, and the residents took over the materials of the covered bridge and moved it to a creek near their homes. It is a compact and lovely bridge. Length: 3.3m
