河辺の「浪漫八橋」
大洲市河辺町には明治、大正、昭和、平成に架けられた八つの屋根付橋があり、「浪漫八橋」と呼ばれています。全国でも珍しい屋根のついた橋は、せめて橋の上だけでも雨露をしのげるようにという先人の知恵と優しさから造られたものと言われます。その思いを現代に受け継ぎ、河辺町の歴史的遺産として保存されています。
河辺・浪漫八橋「三嶋橋」(みしまばし)
三嶋神社の参道にあたるこの橋に神様への信仰心をあらわすため、屋根を付けたと言われています。老朽化に耐えるためトタン葺きの屋根にに葺きかわっていましたが、平成7年3月に景観を良くするため、杉皮への葺き替えと、橋桁修理が行なわれました。

The "Eight Romantic Bridges" in Kawabe
There are eight covered bridges in Kawabe-cho, Ozu City, built in the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, and Heisei eras, and they are called "Roman eight bridges. It is said that these bridges with roofs, which are rare in Japan, were built out of the wisdom and kindness of our ancestors, who wanted at least the tops of the bridges to be sheltered from the rain and dew. The bridge has been preserved as a historical legacy of Kawabe Town, carrying on the spirit of the ancestors.
Mishima Bridge, one of the eight romantic bridges in Kawabe
It is said that a roof was added to this bridge, which is the approach to Mishima Shrine, in order to show faith in the gods. The bridge had been replaced with a tin roof to withstand aging, but in March 1995, the roof was replaced with cedar bark and the bridge girders were repaired to improve the scenery.
