河辺の「浪漫八橋」

大洲市河辺町には明治、大正、昭和、平成に架けられた八つの屋根付橋があり、「浪漫八橋」と呼ばれています。全国でも珍しい屋根のついた橋は、せめて橋の上だけでも雨露をしのげるようにという先人の知恵と優しさから造られたものと言われます。その思いを現代に受け継ぎ、河辺町の歴史的遺産として保存されています。

河辺・浪漫八橋「御幸の橋」（みゆきのはし）

杉皮葺きで太鼓橋の形をした「御幸の橋」は県有形民俗文化財に指定されています。架設された時期は八つの橋の中で最も古く、安永２年に天神社の参道として河辺川に架けられました。現在残っているのは、明治19年に大洪水で流されたものを同年の祭に間に合わせるため、氏子総出で復元したときのものとされています。材はケヤキを使い、釘は一本も使われていません。※長さ 8.3ｍ　幅 2.7ｍ

The "Eight Romantic Bridges" in Kawabe

There are eight covered bridges in Kawabe-cho, Ozu City, built in the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, and Heisei eras, and they are called "Roman eight bridges. It is said that these bridges with roofs, which are rare in Japan, were built out of the wisdom and kindness of our ancestors, who wanted at least the tops of the bridges to be sheltered from the rain and dew. The bridge has been preserved as a historical legacy of Kawabe Town, carrying on the spirit of the ancestors.

Miyuki no Hashi (Miyuki's Bridge)

Miyuki no Hashi, a cedar bark thatched, drum-shaped bridge, is designated as a cultural asset by the prefecture. It is the oldest of the eight bridges and was built over the Kawabe River in Anei 2 as the approach to Tenjinjya Shrine. The current bridge is said to be the one that was washed away in a flood in 1887, and was restored in time for the festival that same year with the help of all the shrine parishioners. It is made of zelkova wood and not a single nail was used. Length 8.3 m, width 2.7 m
