Open to: Middle School students (6th-8th). There is also a High School program.
Timeline: The team forms and practices begin at the start of the school year. The regional competition is typically held in March. Often, students advance to the state competition in May.
School Commitment Level: High - the program runs from the start of the year through March, or possibly May. There are weekly meetings after school and on many Saturdays. Scheduling has more flexibility than other programs.
Time Outside of Meetings: Medium - because students are working with a single partner in each event, responsible students can set their own schedule. Some students attend every after school session to work, others work primarily at home with their partner and attend after-school sessions infrequently.
Academic Focus Areas: This program focuses on areas of science, from meteorology to robotics to reptiles to food science and crime scene forensics.
Skills Developed: This program incorporates and develops skills in research, organization, study skills, data collection as well as a broad variety of event-specific skills.
