Open to: Middle School students (6th-8th)
Timeline: The team forms and practices begin at the start of the school year. The competition is typically held in late-January.
School Commitment Level: Medium - the program runs for half of a school year. Meeting after school are typically 3:00-5:00 twice or three times per week. Additional times will be scheduled based on student availability and team need on in-service days, holiday breaks, and Saturdays.
Time Outside of Meetings: Medium - students will be expected to read and research between meetings. Students will be asked to gather recycled materials in order to build the model. The three students chosen to present the skit will be expected to memorize their lines.
Academic Focus Areas: This program focuses on areas of science and technology, governance and social services, environmental concerns, and systems infrastructure.
Skills Developed: This program incorporates and develops skills in research, technical reading and writing, creative writing, public speaking, modeling, teamwork, problem solving and mechanical design.
