At A Glance:
Write a historical essay with a personal touch. Students are challenged to combine historical research with creative writing, often placing themselves into the time period about which they are writing.
Open to: Middle School students (6th-8th).
Timeline: The essay topic is available in the fall and the essays are typically due in December.
School Commitment Level: Medium - students must research and work through the writing and editing process to create a worthwhile product.
Time Outside of Meetings: Medium - most of the impetus is on the student to progress through the research and arrange time to review his/her writing.
Academic Focus Areas: This program focuses on areas of Social Studies, research, and language arts.
Skills Developed: This program incorporates and develops skills in research, writing, and time management.
