A written evaluation is recommended for all activity leaders. Middle school activity leaders will be evaluated by their principals during their regular teacher evaluation.
The purpose of evaluation of professional staff, including activity leaders, shall be the improvement of performance, assessment of performance, assessment of professional growth, and determination of future employment. Quality activity leadership is an integral part of the education process.
Evaluation shall be a joint process that includes both the evaluator and the person being evaluated. The process will provide a framework for communication between the staff member and administrator involved in the evaluation process. The administrator and the staff member shall work together to improve the activity and enhance professional growth.
In instances where the non-renewal of a staff member is to be considered, the evaluation process shall provide a means to remediate staff member’s inadequate performance prior to the decision to non-renew the extra duty of the employee.
An evaluation cycle will be established for all head and assistant advisors/coaches/directors. Steps in Head Advisor/Coach/Director Evaluation Process:
Head Advisor/Coach/Director sets an appointment with the principal prior to the beginning of the season for that activity.
Head Advisor/Coach/Director completes the pre-evaluation form and self-evaluation and submits to principal prior to the pre-conference.
Principal and Head Advisor/Coach/Director completes Head Advisor/Coach/Director Evaluation Worksheet to be used as discussion during final conference.
Principal completes Head Advisor/Coach/Director Summative Evaluation.
All parties sign the completed Summative Evaluation.
Completed copies of the Summative Evaluation will be sent to Coordinator of Athletics, High School Curriculum Coordinator, and Human Resources (Personnel File).
All Head Advisor/Coach/Directors will formally evaluate their assistants. The self-evaluation form may be used as a part of the preconference.
Following these evaluations, the Head Advisor/Coach/Director will meet with the principal.
All parties will sign the completed evaluation form.
Copies of the evaluation will be sent to Coordinator of Athletics, High School Curriculum Coordinator and Human Resources (Personnel File).
Year One, Two, Three: Assistant and Head Advisor/Coach/Director in the Sioux Falls School District will be evaluated.
Year Four or More: Assistant and Head Advisor/Coach/Director in the Sioux Falls School District will be evaluated once every three (3) years. Formal evaluations can be completed at intervals of less than three years.
If an assistant or head advisor/coach/director moves to a new level of position or to a different building, the Advisor/Coach/Director will be evaluated the first year in the position, and then be placed on the first level of that evaluation schedule.
