Each elementary school will host an assembly of 3rd and 4th graders (may include additional grades) every other year. Semi-annually.
Either the Dakota String Quartet or Dakota Wind Quintet will visit the schools.
Each group will visit 6 schools in a three-day period. Two presentations per day.
The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes.
The presentations reinforce the learning taking place in the music classroom and expose the students to the state’s only full-time professional classical musicians in an up close setting.
The groups present appropriate children’s music and children’s presentations.
For this to be a fully effective and an equitable opportunity for all students regardless of ethnicity or socio-economic background, all elementary school buildings, including Title classified elementary school buildings, are required to comply with the semi-annual assembly. This program was approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Academic Achievement in Spring 2023.
The South Dakota Symphony has offered this opportunity free-of-charge as a public service for the students of the Sioux Falls School District.
