The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra Young People's Concert is a symphony concert held annually for all Sioux Falls 3rd graders at the Washington Pavilion.
April 12, 2027
Registration Procedures:
Music teachers receive an email from the SDSO with registration information. (November/December)
Music teacher completes the online form for their school. This is typically due in February, but the earlier you register, the more likely you are to get your requested time. Work with your building principal to determine the best time.
Music teach coordinates with the building principal on the payment which is $3/student. Directions are included in the registration form. Financial assistance may be available from the SDSO (contact them directly).
SDSO confirms the time and seating chart. (January)
Krista will email music teachers a bussing request spreadsheet. Music teachers indicate the number of students attending, any disabilities, travel times, and pick-up locations. Do not send any bussing requests directly to the travel department or School Bus Inc. (January)
SDSO will email about the docent program and how to schedule the docent to come talk to students about the program.
Music teacher communicates details about the trip with the building principal, clerical, and classroom teachers.
Music teacher communicates with Krista any changes to the bus request--via email (February/March)
The classroom teachers attend the concert with the students. It is each building's discretion if the music teacher also attends the event. It is a building expense if a substitute is required for the music teacher to attend.
Each school covers the cost of the concert (building expense or PTO), and the District covers the cost of transportation.
