Be it to explore careers or bolster their academics, let’s see how some of the high schoolers are spending their summers.
Junior Alleia Bakker plans on enriching career and academic aspects of her life over the summer by accepting an internship at a veterinarian’s office and studying for the June ACT. She is also starting a greeting card business!
Madeline Furr also plans on furthering her education.
“I plan on visiting my brother in San Diego, attending a summer program at Howard University, and participating in some college psychology research”, Furr said.
Some of this productivity may seem counterintuitive due to Summer being a break and commonly seen as a time to just relax and have fun rather than do further work.
“I believe that summer break is a mix of both, though I would lean on the side of fun learning, or stuff that is productive but still fun. This year, focusing on my greeting card [business] will be fun but also productive.” Bakker said.
It is important to use summer as a time to relax, but also to get in any work you’re comfortable with and make sure not to make your Summer a moment of stasis. Senior Thomas Johnson agrees.
“I think summer break is a time to take care of what you need in a more relaxed environment/timeframe. [It’s] important to relax and have fun over the summer, but we also need to remember the tasks at hand never go away.”
