Student brings robotics to the Orgel Educational Center.
Ruby Beaupre, an 8th grade student at University Middle School secured a $5,000 STEM grant from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as part of her capstone project.
“The STEM grants will be used to establish a Robotics Team for both UMS and UHS,” said Mr. Brodskiy, assistant director at University Middle School.
Ruby, pursuing her dream about a robotics team here at University Schools, came up with the idea for applying to the grant.
"I decided to pursue starting a robotics team at UMS and UHS, because joining the robotics team in 5th grade was one of the best decisions I ever made’, she remarked. Now, additional students will be able to follow a similar path.
“I made so many friends throughout the season, I learned a lot about engineering and STEM in general, and it made me want to pursue a career in robotics,” Beaupre continued for the advantages of establishing and growing a program at the school.
“Ruby has put in tremendous effort to turn her vision into reality. She researched robotics education, created a budget for the materials needed to launch the club, and presented her project at the culminating Capstone Showcase,” said Mr. Broskiy, assistant director at University Middle School who oversees the capstone program.
Stay tuned for information on how to join in the fall semester of next school year.
