Everyone wants to be principal for a day, so I asked a few students and teachers what they would do if they got the chance to run the school.
Our freshmen had some pretty typical first-year ideas. Josslyn Greer said she “would bring back phones during lunch,” and Jeremy Turner said he “would get rid of LIT rotation.” Honestly, fair points.
The sophomores had more food-focused plans. Jax Fontanilla said he’d “give out snacks and wings to everyone,” which sounds like a win. Ricky Prendergast said he’d “open the balcony and put a deck on it”—which actually makes sense and would definitely add more space to the cafeteria. Lulu Kling-Wilson said she’d “make lunch and breakfast free again.” That would definitely make a lot of people happy.
So what would our juniors do if they were principal for a day? Michael Taylor kept it simple: “[I would give] students free pizza.” No one’s going to argue with that. Renwick Calico had a more relaxed idea—he’d just “chill fr.”
What do all these responses say about our school? There’s a clear trend here: food. Maybe it’s time to rethink the school’s menu or find ways to reward students with snacks every now and then.
When it came to the teachers, their answers were a little more serious. Mrs. Jackson, who used to be part of the admin team, said she’d “just work—principals only do work,” and she’d “write a grant to get us more money.” Honestly, that’s valid. Mr. Johnson had a much more hardline approach. He said he’d “send every single student [with a phone] home and wouldn’t let them back in until their parents came to hear why.” That’s definitely tied to the recent phone situation, but it seems like it’s being handled behind the scenes.
